Corbin Update

Well Corbin is getting really big. At 9 months he weights a healthy 24 lbs. I don't know how much longer I can carry him around. He is a very happy baby and loves his siblings and Pepper. He is crawling, walking along furniture, eating anything in sight and will stand all by himself now. Walking I think is in the near future. He makes me laugh everyday.

Summer Vacation

Well this post is only two months late. In June we went to visit Josh's Mom Chris and his dad Mike in Texas. We were also able to visit with Janeen's sister Elise and her family but did not get any pictures of them visiting. We had a great time and spent lots of days at the lake.

We blessing Corbin the Sunday after Thanksgiving. We had my dad and step mom here for it which was very nice. I got his outfit right after he was born and got 3-6 month size because he was big. He barely fit in it.

Micaela Turns 4

The story: I woke up at 1:49 with a contraction. I had another one 3 minutes later so I woke up Josh to leave for the hospital. We left at 2 am and went over 100 mph the whole time to the hospital. When we got there I was at 9 cm. They wheeled me into the delivery room where my water broke. The nurses got me all ready to deliver and the doctor got there. I pushed for a while and didn't know why he would not come out. Finally when he came out we found out why I had to work so hard. He was sunny side up and 9 lbs. So I set a new record. Labor and deliver under 1 1/2 hours. If I can't get medication I might as well go fast. He is doing great and I am good, just some sore abs from pushing so hard. I do have popped blood vessels all over my face that are not so pretty.

Priesthood Blessing

So last week in Primary Caden learned about the Power of the Priesthood and how you can get a blessing when you are sick. Well, today he fell and his knee hurt really bad. So he went to Josh and told him he needed a Priesthood blessing to make his knee feel better. It was funny but I am grateful for all that he knows.

So we started out with nothing but dirt in our backyard. We wanted a place to chill so we needed to expand our patio.

So now that we have added to our patio, we wanted to get rid of all that messy dirt. It gets really windy here and having all the dirt makes it pretty dirty. Well we got rid of that problem. YEAH!!!

It is soooo super duper nice to have green grass in our yard. Although we are not able to play on the grass yet, it sure takes care of that eye sore that we had previously!!! Here is to many summer evenings enjoying the cool green grass. Time to play!

Next is a flower garden in the back right corner for Janeen and the sandbox for the kids in the other corner. Maybe next year we will get the patio covered to add to the fun.

Christmas

We had a great Christmas at home this year. We have some great friends that we had dinner with on Christmas Eve and had Santa come visit. We each got to sit on Santa's lap and get a present. We all got dart guns so we had a nice little war going on in the front room. On Christmas we slept in and woke our kids up a 8. They liked all their toys. Later we had some friends over to have some homemade scones. Then for dinner we went out with some more friends to get Chinese which was very good. Another wonderful Christmas. We hope each of you had a great Christmas and we appreciate everyones friendship.

Thanksgiving and Micaela's Birthday

I know I am really late at posting this. For Thanksgiving we had Josh's dad, wife and daughter along with Josh's sister, boyfriend and daughter over. It was nice to have family over and we had a great big feast. It was also Micaela's birthday on Thanksgiving this year and she turned 3. She really enjoyed her pumpkin pie for her birthday cake.

Caden's ER visit

Oh Saturday was a long day. I got home from grocery shopping to Josh telling me we needed to take Caden to the hospital. The one side of him neck was completely swollen. It looked like he had a hamburger bun on his neck. I first went to Urgent Care where we waiting for about 1 hour to be seen. They took blood work and noticed his white blood cell count was really high. Normal is 11-13. Caden's was at 42.5. The Dr tells me we need to go straight to the ER so they can run more tests to see if his lymph node needs to be drained or if it is something more serious like lymphoma. So off to UMC we go. The one nice thing about being set by an Urgent Care to an ER we walked in and when back to a bed in less than 2 minutes. The drs and nurses were great with him. They gave him an iv so they would not have to keep poking Caden. The hospital ran his white blood cell count again and it was up to 50 now. They take some chest x-rays and everything was normal there, so they wanted to do a CT scan of his neck. He did really good a holding really still as they took the pictures. In the scans it just showed his lymph node was really swollen and he would not need surgery to drain it. Then he got a dose of steriods and his first dose of antibiotics and we got sent home. So between the two hours at urgent care and 9 hours at the ER we were both very tired. We rewarded ourselves with a job well done by coming home at midnight and eating some Mother's Circus Animal Cookies. They were so good! So now Caden is doing better but still doesn't like to move his neck and of course he hates the medicine he has to take three times a day.

I want to say sorry to the bird family that lost a member this week. I can't help it the bird did not see a mouse sticky trap in my garage and got stuck on it. I can't help it I did not come to his rescue or notice before it was too late. Having said this, I ask the family of birds to stop pooping all over our cars and house and driveway. I understand you want to pay your respects but I have had enough. Again, I am sorry for your loss.

Well Kenzie went to the Dr today for her 9 month appt and she is short and fat. She weights in at 23lbs 4oz (97%) and 28 1/4 inches long (75%). She is very healthy and very happy. We love having her in our family.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

So a couple of weeks ago we when to Texas for a visit. We saw Janeen's dad, sister, another sister sister and husband and their two kids. We also saw Josh's mom, her husband and lots of siblings. We had lots of fun and will probably plan an anual trip out there. So we had alot of time on our hands when we were driving so we came up with our top 5 good and bad things about Texas. So drum roll please...

Top 5 Bad Things about Texas

1. The Highway Patrol! We got lucky and managed to avoid getting pulled over by these sneaky people but most of the time we are not so lucky. We did not see any cops on the highway until we arrived in Texas and we saw too many to count. I know they are looking out for everyone but it is not fun getting a ticket for speeding (which we do alot!)

2. The Humidity! Eww! That is how I felt the entire time I was there. It is not fun to walk outside from the car to the store/house and have sweat running down my back. And because it was humid, my face broke out. Nice when we take a bunch of pictures...

3. It is HUGE to drive through. We started the trip and in 4 hours we were in Texas but still had another 10 hours to go to get to my dad's house. On the way back we knew we were almost home when we go out of Texas.

4. DEER!!! They are evil in Texas. I would know because Josh hit one one time when he was driving back to NM. $8000 later our car was fixed. We had a friend that hit a deer one night and a week later hit another one. Josh's step dad hit one, the insurance totaled it, he bought it back from them, and a week later hit another deer. Don't drive at night because they like to jump out in front of you and kill themselves and your car. Evil...thats all I can say about them.

5. Rain storms. Most people picture a desert when they think of Texas but that is only half of Texas. The other half is very green and wet. When we were driving back home, we were driving about 30 mph on the freeway through El Paso because it was raining buckets of water. We could barely see the road. There was cars lining the sides of the road because they couldn't see. Lightning everywhere. Luckily we made it through and then we heard on the radio there was a flash flood in El Paso. If we had been 30 minutes later we would have had to spend the night there. And then of course it continued raining, not as bad, for another 2 hours. Fun times.

Top 5 Good Things about Texas

1. Family and Friends. It is always fun to visit and see others you haven't see in a few months or with my sister Elise almost 4 years.

2. Green stuff! I miss grass. I know you have to mow it and water it and take care of it but I think it is totally worth it. It is so nice to take your shoes off and run on it with bare feet. If only it didn't cost $100/month (or more) to water grass here in the desert.

3. Texas Pride. Although some take it a little far, it is nice to see people love their state and take pride in how it looks. I think it is funny how if there is an American flag on a pole there is a Texas one also. When I went to BYU, people would ask me where I was from and I would tell them Texas and the first they would ask was "So where is your Texas flag?" I am happy to report I was one of the few that did not display a Texas flag in my dorm room window.

4. Southern Hospitality. It is true-southern people are really nice. I mean there are a few not so nice people but for the most part they are great. We had to go to the store when we were there and I forgot that they have people to take your groceries out to your car and load them up for you. Oh I miss that alot. I am already tired by the time I get my kids in the car and then I still have to get the food.

5. The Activities/Attractions. There are so many things to do there. I know every state has stuff but they have alot. We went to the Witte museum which was fun and full of history and nature stuff. We also went to the Aquarium which is amazing. If you haven't gone you should. We also went to this drive-thru zoo (Fossil Rim) and we go to feed zebras, giraffes, deer, sheep, goats, and ostriches. We will always have something new to do each year.

Well there you have it. Please keep these in mind if you decide to visit or move to the state of Texas. Hopefully I will get some pictures posted but I have 395 pictures of the trip so it might take awhile. Here is one though when we were swimming in the lake at Josh's mom's house.

I sometimes wonder about my childrens hearing. They never seem to hear what I say unless I am talking really loud. But today they proved me wrong....

I don't like to shower if the kids are up but we had to go to the store and I needed to shower. So I put a movie on for Caden and Micaela and tell them to NOT for any reason answer the door. I tell them this all the time but no one has ever come while I am showering. Well today it did. And guess what they didn't answer the door. They came and told me which was a very good thing because I go to answer it and it was a cop. (And no he was not there because we were in trouble--he was there about the neighbors.) That would have been very bad if Caden and Micaela would have answered the door but high fives to them for listening today.

I ask this question a lot when I have to clean my master bathroom. Why do people have glass shower doors? Have they ever tried to clean them?? When you see them all shine and pretty why not have them? It is when you have to try and clean them that you start to dislike them and all their shiny chrome. They are clean when they are brand new and never return to that sparkly, shiny state again. I try to avoid cleaning my bath tub because the thought of spending 30 mins to clean the glass doors just so they can get dirty the next morning when someone takes a shower makes me sad, really. And even after all that time, they still are not perfectly clean. I have tried every cleaning product that claims they clean all the grim off glass and none of them work!! Why not have a plastic shower curtain that cost $5 bucks and you can toss in the washer to clean it? Sounds better to me. So again I ask...why do people have glass shower doors?

My child is allergic to clothes. It is impossible for Micaela to keep her clothes on all day long. She went outside a little while ago fully dressed and all she has on now is a diaper. (And all of her clothes are scattered all over my backyard.) Why is this simple task so difficult for her?

Caden got a set of Leap Frog DVDs for his birthday which my kids love. Well one of them teaches letters and sounds. Well for the letter A, the professor dresses like a monster and jumps in the "A" room yelling "Oga Oga" which makes all the "a" letters scream "Ahh" which in turn teaches the kids the sound of A. So anyways, my kids have decided to take turns being the monster and the "A" in the movie and scare each other all day long. It was funny at first but they need to move onto another letter.

Kenzie is now 6 months old. She is getting big. She weights in at 18 lbs 13 oz (which is large). She is so much fun to have around and for the most part is a very good girl.

I couldn't help but remember the last time this happened--when Caden climbed in the crib with Micaela. Atleast no baby powder was involved this time. Today was one of those days. I woke up to a chewing sound which is not good for anyone. That means the kids let the dog out of his kennel which they are not supposed to do and the dog was in my room which is not allowed. This is what I saw--my Chi hair straightener in two pieces...

Pepper is lucky he is still living with us. So if the day couldn't get any better Micaela had been playing in my purse and found stickers and put them all over her. But not just any stickers, they were postage stamps. Expensive stickers to wear on your shirt for a day and be put in the trash. We will see how the rest of the day goes...

The other day we were over at a friends house and Caden fell off their kitchen chair. We didn't think anything was wrong with him until we saw his ear. It was huge and swollen and purple.

Food Poisoning

So I have gotten food poisoning 3 times in my life and it is aweful. The first time was when I was pregnant with Micaela--this is the reason I never eat any seafood when I am pregnant. The second time was when I was pregnant with Kenzie--I ate a hot dog at a baseball game. Never get the chili. Third time was yesterday and it was the worst one so far. Josh and I went out to eat on Valentine's Day and have leftovers so I brought them home. I ate them yesterday for lunch. Not good. I will spare you the details but I will never be eating leftovers from a restaurant again--not matter how good they were. The worst part about the poisoning this time was Micaela had some of the food with me so she was up most of the night with me too. So lesson learned here--leftovers are bad.

I took Pepper to the doctor on Tuesday for a check up. He is nice and healthy weighting in at 3 lbs 8 oz. He was very popular with everyone there because he is so cute and little. I am happy to say we have had him for 3 weeks now and everyone is still alive and well.

We have been painting our living room and kitchen the past two days so the kids have had to entertain themselves lately. Well today Micaela was so funny we had to take some pictures...

We put the dog outside so we would not have any accidents with him and paint. I guess Micaela got tire of hanging out with us inside so she joined the puppy in his bed outside...(yes, no pants. it is impossible for her to keep them on all day!)

She had to bunk up with Kenzie too...

But with all this going on, we got all the painting done. Next up is the girls room...

Sick little girls...

So Monday I take Micaela and Kenzie to the doctor because they have had colds forever. Well Kenzie was ok but Micaela had an ear infection. Not too bad I can handle that. So Kenzie wasn't getting better but got worse so I took her back in to the Dr yesterday to find out she has RSV and an ear infection. She is on breathing treatments everyday for a couple of weeks and on medicine for her ear. Sick little girls.

So Josh decided he did not want to name the dog Leny so his new name is Pepper. It is a good thing we didn't have to fill out a birth certificate or this name change would have cost us about $50.

So after years of waiting for Josh, lots of begging and crying for the kids, and lots of convincing to Janeen, we got a puppy yesterday. His name is Leny and he is a mini dapple dashchund. I have to admit he is really cute and the kids love him and Leny loves them. He follows them around everywhere.

Our Christmas

So Santa came early to our house this year. Josh is out of town on Christmas so Monday was our Christmas. We had a great time and by 9 my kids were full of sugar and candy. It is always funny to see which toys the kids will like the most. Caden's favorite(s) were the two remote control cars he got. One plays this awful music which he loves to play over and over and over again. (you think the people over at the toy company have kids too and would pick better sound effects) Micaela has several favorite things this year: her tooth brush (very good because of all the sugar), a Dora backpack (so she can fill it full of all her toys) and lip smackers chap stick (I have gotten tired of her getting mine and ruining it so she has her very own now. The pack came with three so any given moment she has one it each hand.) Josh got some fun power tools which he has already used. I got clothes which was all I wanted. After three kids things just don't fit the same so I needed some new clothes.

I guess we have been watching this show too much because we decided to tackle a project of our own. We decided to start painting our house. We have several after this one but we started with Caden's room. The first color we picked was on a blue paint strip but was a lavendar on the wall--not good. So we took it back to get it fixed so it would be blue. Here are some pictures to document our first big (and very permanent) house project...

Christmas should be every day!

So I was thinking about Christmas and have decided it should be every day or at least once a week. My reasoning behind this is good. For the past couple weeks I have been able to use Santa to get me children to behave. I tell hem Santa will not bring toys or candy unless they stop fighting (I am sure this is a common practice in most homes) and a miracle happens--they are good! So that is reason one. The next one is Christmas eve you tell your kids that Santa will not come until they go to bed so instead of having your children screaming and crying about going to bed another miracle happens--they are excited to go to sleep.

If only these bribing techniques worked year round...

He is not sure if it was do to his huge Maglite flash light or the elbow of the guy Josh tackled to the ground. However it happened I wanted it fixed quick.

Micaela had her 2nd birthday on Nov 26 and Sharma turned 17 the same day. While Sharma was visiting we celebrated their birthdays and had cake. Micaela got another baby doll and a play cell phone (but she still prefers mine). Sharma got some socks for work (fun I know).

We finally had our third baby! It turned out Janeen was right--it was a baby girl. We named her Kenzie Eldredge (I know no middle name, that was Josh). She weighted 8 lbs 14 oz and was 21 inches long. She was by far our biggest baby yet and hopefully the biggest if there are any future children. She made her grand enterance at 6:12 am on Oct 15. The labor nice and short--only two hours from the first contraction to her being born. My prayers were answered because we did make it to the hospital but of course not in time for any medication (I was already a 10 when we got there). The doctor did miss the delivery; he showed up about 5 minutes too late but the nurses did a great job. I think Josh had fun driving, he got to go 100 or so on the freeway. One of my sisters said she was glad I got to the hospital but it would have made a better story if I had had her in the car. If it is true that each additional labor gets shorter than it may be the case with the next one. Caden and Micaela love her and want to hold and touch her all the time. Micaela is having a harder time adjusting I think because she is getting into everything and knows just how to upset Josh and me. Here are some pictures of Kenzie and everyone else. Enjoy!

Today I went to my ob appt and had my group b strep test done and got checked for any progress. My problem is I have had too much progress--I am already almost a 3, about 70% effaced(how is that spelled??) and the dr could feel the baby's head. This would have been great news if I was already 37 weeks but at 36 it is not to good. So now I get to sit here all day and stare at all the boxes sitting in my house and do nothing. Normally having unpacked boxes would not bother me but knowing I can't do anything about it is sort of annoying. Hopefully I make it till Tuesday so I will be 37 weeks until then I am allowed to be lazy(the last time I get to enjoy that for a long time)!

Work Party

So about a week ago Josh had a work party that we went to. It was lots of fun and there were a lot of things for the kids to do. They had a little train ride, a blow up jump house, face painting and of course a pinata. They also had mexican hot dogs (which consist of a bacon wrapped hot dog topped with beans, grilled onions, and pico de gallo), mexican tacos (which are my favorite!) and smoked chicken. They also had shaved ice which Caden loved! He would wonder off and when we would go find him he would be at the shaved ice station getting another one. I think he got about 6 just by himself. Although we did have a good time I go soooo many mosquito bites! I think I counted 30 total! We are in the desert! There are not supposed to be mosquitos here. Here are some pictures from the event.

Delivery

So I have been having these weird dreams during this pregnancy that I deliver my baby either at home or in the car. Once we move we will be about 45 mins away from the hospital so my anxiety level is fairly high. So today at my appointment I told my Dr about my concerns hoping he would just say that I could have a scheduled induction but that was not the reply. He told me to bring Josh in to one of my appointments so he could tell him how to deliver the baby if he needs too. Great! That was the exact answer I wanted. Hopefully we will not have to resort to that but we shall see...

Friday was the big day for Caden. He finally got his tonsils out. He has done fairly well. The nurses sort of scared me a little telling me how bad it was going to be for the next couple of days but Caden is doing good. They said that he would not want to eat or drink but Caden has eaten a lot. He wanted pretzels for breakfast but that is not on his approved diet list. It is lots of jello and pudding and marshmallows for the next two weeks. The hardest part is pinning him down and making him take his medicine. He is one happy kid when he takes his pain medicine. Here a couple of pictures right when we got back from the hospital. He has a little bed made up on the sofa so he could watch all the TV he wanted.

So I am a little behind on posting this. Caden started preschool a couple of weeks ago and is really enjoying it! He is learning all of his colors, alphabet and numbers. He gets up every morning and wakes us up saying "Hurry, mommy, school!" Hopefully his excitement for school will continue for a long time!

The great Outdoors!

I am not really sure why we started but we have recently gone camping with some our friends (the Mumfords) a few times. We forgot our camera the first time we went but we have proof for our second camping trip. We all drove up to our famous mountain--Mt Lemmon--to camp. For the most part the weather was great but we did get rained on both times. Maybe it is a sign camping is not for us. It is fun to get outdoors and enjoy nature. There are actually pine trees up there. It reminded us of Texas. I am sure we will go a few more times before we have the baby (because camping is out for a couple of months after that.)

One thing that comes with nature though is animals. The first time we went we were almost positive we heard a bear growling all night. It doesn't help to ease your anxiety when there are signs everywhere telling you to "Be Bear Aware" and "Do not feed the Bears" and there is a big metal box to put your food in at night so the bears can't get it. But the second time we went we have a very different concern. We had to scare away several skunks out of our camp ground. (Sorry no picture. I hope you understand why.) I was prepared the leave behind anyone that go sprayed and let them walk home.

Sorry I have been slacking about posting lately but I am going to try to catch up. About a week ago our kids found their winter jackets (and yes they are just jackets, no need for fluffy down filled coats here.) Here I am sweating because it is so hot, my kids wanted to wear their jackets. So whatever will entertain them for a few minutes is fine with me.

Sewing

So for some people sewing can be stressful but for me it actually relieves my stress. This past Saturday I decided I wanted to make something. We had just got Caden some new Sunday clothes so I wanted to make Micaela something to wear that was new. So about 8 pm Saturday I begin the process. About 2:30 the next morning I finished. I have a problem stopping once I start. Well here is a picture of the product. I thought it turned out pretty good and I have since washed it and it didn't fall apart (which is always a plus).
